Day8 - Ride to San Lameer

I stayed here and it fitted in with the whole mood of my trip.
This is my caravan accommodation.
Front view and the toilet, not easily seen, is to the left.
This is my bedroom inside the caravan and at R150.00 a night, it was a bargain. The owner chick is a bit of a hippie. The park is full and apparently their Midmar Mile weekend, it is bursting at the seams.
The view from my patio prior to the big storm letting loose.
Bacon and egg sandwich from the previous day, was my breakfast.
Took a photo of the dam on the way out. Kids  love this place.
Nottingham Road has a lot to offer. I think it deserves a tour of its own.
One of my buddies was going to try and join me from here,  but sadly the logistics and a lost wallet put and end to that. So I decided to change my route and head for  Creighton instead. Sorry Denzil. I would have loved to have a beer with you in Maritzburg.
But look at these views.
The Midlands is beautiful.
The downside is that views like this come from a lot of ascending and on a bicycle, that means hard work.
Met these fine people at a shebeen just outside Boston. The beer was off the shelf as there was no electricity,  but we had a little impromptu office Christmas party. I was the sponsor. They thanked me enthusiastically and assured me that I was welcome to pop in anytime I was in the area. They were quite prepared to have a Christmas in July.
I left them and decided to try a shortcut through the Sappi Plantation.
I had a swim 'cos I got hot going round and round in circles. Let me just say that I saw a lot more of the plantations than I would have liked to and some parts,  more than once.
I passed the  Umko River late afternoon and it was spectacular.
Eventually,  I was advised by a black gent in a small village to ignore my GPS short route course and to head for Bulwer on the tar.
I got there late and in the dark. I tried calling the hotel, but no-one answered.  So I headed for the nearest restaurant called Birds in The Barley. I knocked on the door and a voice inside said "We are closed, sorry. "
I said "I'm here on bicycle do you know where I can stay."
The door opened. "That changes everything. You can couch surf.  We can't not help you."
And so I met Brian and Caroline.
